Catalogue note

Picturegoer incorporating Film Weekly, No. 455 (New Series), Vol. 9, dated 10 February 1940, with a vivid colour portrait of Mari Martin. The issue is especially valuable for W. H. Mooring’s illustrated feature ‘Dietrich Rides Again’, which examines Marlene Dietrich’s reinvention around Destry Rides Again and looks back across her collaborations with Josef von Sternberg and her Hollywood screen persona. The rear page is a full-page advance advertisement for Everywoman No. 1, due 20 February 1940, preserving useful evidence of Odhams’ cross-promotion and women’s magazine publishing immediately before that title’s launch.
