Xavier Barral founded Éditions Xavier Barral in 2002 after a career spanning photography, art direction and cultural design. The house became known for books in which photographic or artistic content and the physical form of the book were developed closely together. After Barral’s death, the team took over the company in 2020 under the name Atelier EXB.
