Royal Canadian Mint
Canadian Crown corporation responsible for Canada’s circulation coinage and a major international producer of bullion, collector and contract-minted coins.
Overview
Royal Canadian Mint
The Ottawa branch of the British Royal Mint officially opened on 2 January 1908. Governor General Earl Grey struck the first domestically produced Canadian coin, a fifty-cent piece, and the facility became the Royal Canadian Mint in 1931. It subsequently developed a major reputation for technical minting, precious-metal bullion and collector issues.
