Sleazenation
British style and club-culture magazine founded in 1996 as a free London publication before developing into a nationally distributed fashion, music and culture title.
Sleazenation
Sleazenation was conceived in 1996 by Adam Dewhurst and Jon Swinstead, with Steve Beale recruited as its original editor. It began as a free London club publication and was relaunched through national newsagents in late 1997 after a substantial redesign and expansion of its editorial content. The magazine crossed club culture, fashion, music, arts and deliberately irreverent commentary; in early 2004 it was renamed Sleaze as part of another relaunch.
Why it matters
Sleazenation strengthens TMR’s record of the period when club culture, fashion, graphic design and independent style publishing overlapped particularly closely in Britain.
