Alan Shearer is an English former footballer whose combination of power, timing and direct finishing made him the defining centre-forward of the Premier League’s first generation. After emerging at Southampton, he joined Blackburn Rovers in 1992 and became the attacking centrepiece of the side that won the 1994–95 Premier League title.
He later returned to his native north-east with Newcastle United, where he became club captain and its record goalscorer.
