Biography
Person.
Guy Debord (1931–1994) was a French writer, theorist and filmmaker associated with the Lettrist International and the Situationist International. His work challenged the organisation of everyday life under capitalism, examining consumption, advertising, leisure and the modern city.
His book The Society of the Spectacle became a major reference in political and cultural theory. Debord's activities also included editing Internationale situationniste and developing practices such as the dérive, an exploratory movement through urban space, and détournement, the reuse of existing cultural material for new critical purposes.
