Biography
Person.
Stuart Spalding is a graphic designer and creative director associated with British fashion and style publishing. With Lee Swillingham, he worked at The Face before helping establish the visual identities of POP and LOVE, both edited by Katie Grand. Their work brought typography, photography and art direction together in magazines that treated fashion as part of a wider popular culture.
Spalding and Swillingham also co-founded the creative agency Suburbia. Its projects for brands including H&M, Loewe and Benetton extended their editorial approach into advertising. Their partnership links the experimental magazine culture of the 1990s with international fashion communication.
