Biography
Person.
Lloyd Johnson is a British designer and outfitter whose clothing has been closely associated with music and youth culture. Beginning with a stall in Kensington Market in 1967, he developed a style that drew on sharp tailoring, older clothes and the demands of performers seeking a distinctive appearance.
From 1978 to 2000, Johnson's The Modern Outfitters operated at World's End on the King's Road. The shop became a destination for musicians and fashion followers, bringing stage clothing into everyday street style. Johnson's career documents the role of independent London shops in developing the visual identities of successive musical generations.
