Biography
Person.
Zeke Manyika is a Zimbabwean musician whose drumming became an important part of British pop in the 1980s. After moving to Glasgow, he joined Orange Juice, helping the group develop the rhythmic range heard on Rip It Up and its later recordings.
He also worked with the Style Council and The The, including the latter’s Soul Mining, while pursuing a solo career through albums such as Call and Response and Mastercrime. His playing and songwriting connect southern African musical experience with Scottish post-punk, British soul and dance music, making him a significant participant in the cultural exchanges behind those records.
