Devendra Banhart is a musician and visual artist whose songs move between folk traditions and more experimental arrangements. Born in Houston and raised partly in Venezuela, he began performing publicly while attending the San Francisco Art Institute. His 2002 debut album, Oh Me Oh My..., brought his home recordings to a wider audience.
Later albums include Ape in Pink Marble and Ma, made with longtime collaborator Noah Georgeson. Banhart sings in several languages, and his drawings have also been exhibited internationally, including in museum and gallery settings.
