Biography
Person.
Vince Clarke is a British musician and songwriter whose electronic pop career began with Depeche Mode. After leaving the group, he formed Yazoo with Alison Moyet and worked with Feargal Sharkey through the Assembly before establishing Erasure with Andy Bell.
Across these projects, synthesizers became the basis for concise, melodic songs carried by distinctive vocalists. Clarke’s collaborations also include work with Martyn Ware and a reunion with Martin Gore as VCMG. His solo album Songs of Silence, released in 2023, explored a more atmospheric instrumental approach. His career connects the emergence of British synth-pop with several subsequent forms of electronic music.
