Biography

Person.

Loretta Lynn was an American country singer and songwriter raised in the coal-mining community of Butcher Holler, Kentucky. Her songs drew on everyday experience, work and relationships, often giving women a direct and assertive voice. Recordings such as Coal Miner's Daughter became closely identified with her own life story.

She also formed a successful recording partnership with Conway Twitty and became the first woman to receive the Country Music Association's Entertainer of the Year award. In 2004, Van Lear Rose, produced by Jack White, introduced her work to another generation of listeners. She continued recording into her later years and died in 2022.
