Biography
Person.
Timothy Mo is a novelist born in Hong Kong who moved to Britain as a child. His fiction explores migration, colonial history and the pressures placed on people moving between cultures. Sour Sweet follows a Chinese family making a life in London, while An Insular Possession examines the nineteenth-century trading world around the emergence of British Hong Kong.
Both novels were shortlisted for the Booker Prize, as was The Redundancy of Courage, set in a fictional country shaped by the history of East Timor. Mo later established his own publishing imprint, Paddleless Press, taking greater control over the publication of his work.
