Biography
Person.
Bob Hoskins (1942–2014) was a British actor whose compact physical presence, quick intelligence and mixture of toughness and vulnerability made him one of the most recognisable screen performers of the 1980s and 1990s. He first reached a wide audience through Dennis Potter’s television serial Pennies from Heaven before The Long Good Friday established him as a major film actor, turning the London gangster into a vehicle for political ambition, menace and tragic self-belief.
Hoskins won a BAFTA for Neil Jordan’s Mona Lisa and later reached a global audience through Who Framed Roger Rabbit, while continuing to work across British and American film in projects ranging from intimate drama to large-scale studio productions.
