Biography
Person.
Lynne Ramsay is a Scottish filmmaker, born in Glasgow, who studied photography before training at the National Film and Television School. Her shorts Small Deaths and Gasman won jury prizes at Cannes. Her first feature, Ratcatcher (1999), explored childhood in Glasgow during a refuse collectors' strike.
Morvern Callar adapted Alan Warner's novel with Samantha Morton in the leading role. Later films include We Need to Talk About Kevin, You Were Never Really Here and Die My Love. Ramsay often builds a story through fragmented images, music and carefully shaped sound, returning to experiences of grief, violence, guilt and difficult family relationships.
