Biography
Person.
Wong Kar-wai is a filmmaker associated with Hong Kong cinema whose work centres on memory, desire and missed connections. After working as a television scriptwriter, he directed As Tears Go By, adapting the conventions of the crime film to a more personal and visually expressive form.
His subsequent films include Days of Being Wild, Chungking Express, Happy Together, In the Mood for Love and 2046. They often tell stories through fragments, recurring images and shifting points of view, giving atmosphere and emotion as much weight as plot. Wong won the directing prize at Cannes for Happy Together, bringing further international recognition to his distinctive cinema.
