Questlove

Questlove is the professional name of Ahmir Khalib Thompson, an American drummer, producer, DJ, author and filmmaker. He co-founded the Philadelphia hip-hop group the Roots, whose live-band approach to the genre also carried into television when they became Jimmy Fallon’s house band.

His documentary debut Summer of Soul won an Academy Award. Alongside performing and directing, Questlove has written about musical memory and history in books including Mo’ Meta Blues, Music Is History and Hip Hop Is History. He also established the publishing imprint AUWA Books, extending his work as a musician into the recording and circulation of other people’s cultural histories.
