Biography

Person.

Tim Roth is a British actor and director whose early career made him one of the most forceful screen faces of working-class anger and social fracture in 1980s British film. His first screen role was the teenage skinhead Trevor in Alan Clarke’s Made in Britain, followed by Mike Leigh’s Meantime and Stephen Frears’s The Hit, performances built around volatile outsiders rather than conventional romantic leading roles.

Roth later played Vincent van Gogh in Vincent & Theo before moving into American independent cinema, where Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction established a long association with Quentin Tarantino. His performance in Rob Roy earned an Academy Award nomination, while his only feature as director, The War Zone, extended his interest in difficult family and social material behind the camera.
