Biography
Person.
Terry Gilliam is an American-born filmmaker, animator and member of Monty Python. After working in magazines in the United States, he moved to London and made television animations. His cut-out sequences for Monty Python’s Flying Circus combined historical art, photographs and absurd drawings, giving the programme a distinctive visual rhythm.
He co-directed Monty Python and the Holy Grail with Terry Jones before making films including Brazil, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, The Fisher King and Twelve Monkeys. His cinema returns to fantasy, bureaucracy and unstable realities, carrying the irreverence of British television comedy into elaborate and often unsettling imagined worlds.
