Biography
Person.
INSA is a British artist whose practice moves between graffiti, large-scale murals and digital animation. He developed GIF-ITI, a process in which a wall is painted, photographed and repainted through a sequence of changing images. The photographs are then assembled into an animated loop.
The finished animation allows viewers to see movements that cannot be experienced by looking at the wall alone. This gives his work two forms: a physical painting in a particular place and a moving image circulated online. His practice brings the labour and scale of street painting into contact with the repeated loops and rapid distribution of internet imagery.
