Biography

Person.

James Jean is an artist born in Taipei in 1979 who studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York. His work crosses painting, drawing, illustration and the printed book. He became widely associated with the covers of DC/Vertigo's Fables, later collected in dedicated volumes, and contributed illustrations to Fables: 1001 Nights of Snowfall.

Jean's exhibition practice has developed alongside this publishing work, with solo presentations including Eternal Journey at Seoul's Lotte Museum of Art and the Eternal Spiral exhibitions in China. Books such as Process Recess and Rebus provide another setting for his drawings and images, linking commercial illustration with an independent studio practice.
