E. M. Carroll

E. M. Carroll is a Canadian writer and artist from Ontario whose comics explore horror through unsettling domestic spaces, bodily transformation and the supernatural. Their books include the short-story collection Through the Woods (2014), When I Arrived at the Castle (2019) and A Guest in the House (2023).

A Guest in the House follows a newly married woman becoming absorbed by the mystery of her husband’s first wife. Its shifts between monochrome drawing and vivid colour accompany the story’s psychological unease. The book won Lambda Literary, Los Angeles Times and Doug Wright awards.
