Biography
Person.
Richard Hell is an American musician, poet and novelist born Richard Meyers in Kentucky in 1949. He moved to New York in 1966 to write poetry and published small-press books and magazines before forming the Neon Boys with Tom Verlaine. That group developed into Television.
After leaving Television, he played with the Heartbreakers before forming the Voidoids in 1976. Their album Blank Generation appeared the following year and became closely associated with New York punk. Writing remained central to his work: his publications include the novels Go Now and Godlike, poetry, journals and the memoir I Dreamed I Was a Very Clean Tramp.
