David Slijper

David Slijper is an English photographer and director whose career has combined fashion, beauty and celebrity portraiture with an increasingly explicit interest in the difference between commercial polish and personal presence. Over more than two decades he has worked for magazines including i-D, Dazed, The Face, W and multiple international editions of Vogue, while advertising clients have ranged from Burberry and Calvin Klein to Dior, Prada and Yves Saint Laurent Homme.

Slijper’s portraits tend toward controlled composition and refined colour, but his own account of the work emphasises the person before transformation: he has increasingly used personal projects to challenge conventional beauty photography by paying attention to faces before styling, make-up and idealisation take over.
