Biography

Person.

Steve Ignorant is a singer, songwriter and artist who co-founded Crass with Penny Rimbaud in 1977. As one of the band's vocalists, he helped turn punk's confrontational energy towards anarchist politics, anti-war campaigning and questions of personal responsibility. Crass's songs included Do They Owe Us a Living? and How Does It Feel to Be the Mother of a Thousand Dead?

After Crass stopped performing in 1984, Ignorant worked with groups including Current 93, Conflict, Schwartzeneggar and Stratford Mercenaries. His later career has continued to draw on the relationship between performance and political expression established by Crass, while extending beyond the original band's recordings and collective identity.
