Biography
Person.
Ry Cooder is an American guitarist, singer, composer and producer whose music draws on blues, folk, country and other vernacular traditions. After playing with Taj Mahal in the Rising Sons during the 1960s, he worked as a session musician and developed a solo recording career. His film music includes the distinctive slide-guitar score for Wim Wenders’ Paris, Texas.
Cooder’s collaborations have also crossed national and musical boundaries, including recordings with V. M. Bhatt, Ali Farka Touré and the Cuban musicians of Buena Vista Social Club. He reunited with Taj Mahal for Get On Board in 2022, revisiting the music of Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee.
