Biography
Person.
Hiroshi Yoshida (1876–1950) was a Japanese painter and woodblock-print artist associated with the shin-hanga movement. He trained in Western-style painting and travelled extensively, establishing a career in oils and watercolours before making prints for publisher Watanabe Shozaburo in 1920.
From 1925, Yoshida ran his own print operation and supervised the production of his designs closely. His landscapes depict Japan as well as places visited in North America, Europe, Egypt and India. He also published Japanese Woodblock Printing in English, explaining his methods to an international readership.
