Biography
Person.
Ian Gibson was a British comics artist whose elegant line, expressive acting and deceptively light touch made him one of 2000 AD’s most distinctive visual storytellers. He drew Judge Dredd extensively and co-created the comic’s future-feminist science-fiction landmark The Ballad of Halo Jones with Alan Moore, while his work on Robo-Hunter helped give Sam Slade’s absurd technological world its mixture of comedy, machinery and character.
Gibson’s pages often appear clean and effortless, but their clarity depends on highly controlled composition: crowded cities, robots and elaborate costumes remain immediately readable because gesture and silhouette do so much narrative work. Beyond 2000 AD he worked on projects including Star Wars: Boba Fett and X-Men Unlimited and contributed design work to the television series ReBoot.
