Biography
Person.
Vic Fair was a British film-poster designer and illustrator whose career developed within London’s cinema advertising agencies. He created both finished artwork and the concept sketches that other illustrators developed into printed campaigns, collaborating with artists including Renato Fratini and Brian Bysouth.
His posters include The Man Who Fell to Earth, Countess Dracula, Vampire Circus and Castaway. Fair often built designs around striking combinations of images rather than a straightforward arrangement of star portraits. His account of the work describes a practical, collaborative process of screenings, roughs and negotiations with distributors, revealing the creative labour behind British cinema’s printed publicity.
