Thoko Maselela, identified as Thoko Masilela in contemporary press coverage, appeared on the cover of Dazed & Confused's July 2004 South Africa issue, photographed by Rankin in Johannesburg. The project marked ten years of democracy and brought young South Africans into the foreground of a British style magazine. Dazed later selected the cover among those that defined significant moments in its history.
