Biography
Person.
John Lennon was a British singer, songwriter and artist who became internationally known as a founding member of the Beatles. Emerging from Liverpool, he helped make popular songwriting a vehicle for personal reflection, experiment and social commentary, as well as mass entertainment.
His post-Beatles records included John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and Imagine, followed later by Double Fantasy. With Yoko Ono, he also developed work across music, visual art and public campaigning. The Plastic Ono Band was conceived as an open, changing collective; “Give Peace a Chance”, recorded with participants in Montreal, made that approach part of a widely shared peace campaign.
