Philippa York is a Scottish former professional cyclist and writer who raced under the name Robert Millar. Born in Glasgow, she became one of Britain’s most accomplished stage-race riders, finishing fourth in the 1984 Tour de France and winning its mountains classification.
She twice finished second in the Vuelta a España and was runner-up in the 1987 Giro d’Italia, where she also won the mountains classification. After retiring from racing, she contributed to cycling journalism and coaching. Her later writing includes The Escape: The Tour, the Cyclist and Me, a book made with David Walsh that revisits professional cycling through travel, conversation and personal recollection.
