Biography
Person.
Marco Brambilla is a Milan-born artist and filmmaker known for video installations assembled from densely layered fragments of cinema and popular culture. He studied film in Toronto and directed features including Demolition Man before shifting his focus towards video and photography in the late 1990s.
His Megaplex series—Civilization, Evolution and Creation—reworks familiar screen imagery into elaborate scenes of desire, spectacle and excess. Later projects include Heaven's Gate, large public installations and work for opera, including collaborations with Marina Abramović. Brambilla also directed the video for Kanye West's Power, bringing his approach to digital collage into mainstream music.
