Biography
Person.
Squarepusher is the recording name of Tom Jenkinson, a British electronic musician, composer and virtuoso bass player whose work has repeatedly collapsed the distinction between programmed rhythm and instrumental performance. Emerging from the 1990s rave and breakbeat underground, Jenkinson signed to Warp and released Hard Normal Daddy in 1997, combining extreme drum programming with jazz-fusion bass, industrial electronics and a deliberate refusal to settle into a fixed genre identity.
Across later records he has moved through drill-and-bass, electro, live-band projects, digital composition and increasingly elaborate performance systems while keeping virtuosity and technological experimentation in constant tension.
