Sheila Chandra

Sheila Chandra is a British singer and writer whose recordings have explored connections between South Asian musical traditions and other vocal forms. She became the lead singer of Monsoon in 1981, reaching a wide audience with Ever So Lonely. Her subsequent solo recordings for Indipop developed her work as both singer and composer.

Albums for Real World, including Weaving My Ancestors’ Voices, The Zen Kiss and ABoneCroneDrone, moved towards unaccompanied voice, vocal percussion and sustained drones. Her approach draws connections between Indian, British, Irish and other traditions. She has also written books, including Organizing Your Creative Career.
