Biography
Person.
Malerie Marder is an American photographer whose work examines intimacy, vulnerability and the psychological tensions of looking. She studied at Bard College and Yale, and developed a photographic practice in which friends and family appear alongside other subjects, often posed in plain domestic or motel interiors.
Her first substantial collection in print, Carnal Knowledge (2011), brought together more than seventy works with essays, fiction and an exchange with Philip-Lorca diCorcia. The photographs move between carefully arranged tableaux and the discomfort of private encounters. Marder's work has entered collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the National Gallery of Victoria.
