Biography
Person.
Roy Carr was a British music journalist, editor and compiler whose career was closely associated with the NME. He began contributing in the late 1960s and also worked on publications including Melody Maker, Vox and Uncut. His books included The Beatles: An Illustrated Record, written with Tony Tyler and published in 1975.
Carr helped shape the way music reached readers through photographs, reference books and cover-mounted recordings as well as reviews. His compilation work included the NME’s C81 and C86 cassettes, releases that became documents of British independent music and of the music press’s role in introducing new bands. He died in 2018.
