Biography
Person.
René Matić is a British artist born in Peterborough in 1997 whose work moves between photography, film, sculpture and installation. Their practice examines belonging, race, gender and national identity, often through intimate images of friends, family and everyday social life.
British subcultures are central to their work, including the intersections of Caribbean culture, white working-class life and skinhead style. Their exhibitions include Upon This Rock at South London Gallery and AS OPPOSED TO THE TRUTH at CCA Berlin. The latter brought their diaristic photography to wider attention through its selection for the 2026 Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize.
