Heinz Wolff (1928–2017) was a scientist, inventor and television presenter who helped develop bioengineering in Britain. Born in Berlin, he arrived in Britain in 1939 and later studied physiology and physics at University College London. He worked for the Medical Research Council before founding the Brunel Institute for Bioengineering in 1983.
Wolff became widely known through The Great Egg Race, bringing practical invention to television audiences. His research included equipment for experiments in space, while his later work explored a time-banking approach to supporting care for older people.
