Biography

Person.

Kevin O’Neill was a British comics artist whose grotesque machinery, abrasive line and densely comic imagination made him one of the most distinctive visual voices to emerge from 2000 AD. He began on the magazine as an art assistant on its first issue and quickly moved into creative work, co-creating strips including A.B.C. Warriors, Nemesis the Warlock, Bonjo From Beyond the Stars and Metalzoic.

O’Neill’s drawings resist conventional superhero polish: bodies stretch, machines bristle with implausible detail and satire is embedded directly into the design of costumes, weapons and architecture. With writer Pat Mills he co-created Marshal Law, a deliberately vicious parody of superhero culture whose first issue appeared in 1987; he later achieved wider international recognition through his long collaboration with Alan Moore on The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
