Sandra Douglas was a designer who worked with Ben Kelly on the Haçienda nightclub and Dry Bar in Manchester. The Haçienda, completed for Factory Records in 1982, transformed a former yacht showroom through an interior of industrial materials, warning stripes, bollards and road markings. Douglas and Kelly discussed the project in a contemporary interview in The Face.
Her contribution belongs to the wider relationship between Factory’s music, graphic design and social spaces. Fellow designer Angela Drinkall later recalled Douglas as an important personal influence, specifically recognising her work with Kelly on the two Manchester venues.
