Biography
Person.
Leonard Nimoy was an American actor and director best known for playing Spock in Star Trek. Born in Boston, he helped shape the character beyond the script, introducing the Vulcan hand greeting from a gesture he had seen in Jewish worship. He returned to the role across television and successive generations of Star Trek films.
Nimoy also directed Star Trek III: The Search for Spock and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. Photography was another sustained creative practice: he described it as a way to explore ideas through visual work outside acting. His career combined performance, filmmaking and image-making.
