Biography

Person.

Phillip Dixon is an American photographer whose career developed through glamour, advertising and fashion. He began by working in the studio and darkroom of Hollywood photographer Bud Fraker, then made photographs for Playboy before moving into clothing advertising and editorial work, including Harper’s Bazaar.

Dixon has described composition, daylight and the relationship between a figure and its surroundings as central to his pictures. His fashion photography frequently uses outdoor locations and a restrained treatment of clothes and styling. The same concern with light and scale informed the home he designed in Venice Beach, California, linking his photographic eye with the construction of a living space.
