Biography
Person.
Ron Smith was a British comics artist whose long association with Judge Dredd made him one of the character’s most prolific and recognisable early visual interpreters. His 2000 AD work covered major storylines as well as an extraordinary volume of shorter material, and from 1981 he became the principal artist of the Judge Dredd newspaper strip in the Daily Star, translating Mega-City One into the compact discipline of a daily format.
Smith’s pages are packed with incident: grotesque citizens, broad comedy, machinery and crowds are handled with a clarity that lets the satire remain readable even at its busiest. His Dredd credits include episodes of The Day the Law Died, The Judge Child and many later stories, while his work also extended to other 2000 AD material.
