Biography
Person.
Brett Ewins (1955–2015) was a British comics artist, editor and publisher whose career linked the foundational years of 2000 AD to the independent magazine culture that followed in the late 1980s. After graduating from Goldsmiths, he began drawing covers and strips for 2000 AD, contributing to Judge Dredd, A.B.C. Warriors, Rogue Trooper, Judge Anderson and, most notably, Bad Company.
His angular figures, urban textures and willingness to let punk and street-graphic energy into science-fiction imagery gave his pages a recognisably contemporary edge. Ewins also worked in American comics on projects including Swamp Thing, Hellblazer and Skreemer.
With fellow artist Steve Dillon, Ewins also edited and published Deadline, a magazine bringing comics into contact with music and youth culture.
