Nick Zedd

Nick Zedd was a filmmaker, writer, actor and artist closely associated with New York's Cinema of Transgression. His work emerged from an underground culture of experimental film, punk performance and self-publishing. He studied illustration, animation and film, and identified Ed Wood, Jack Smith and John Waters among his influences.

His films included They Eat Scum, and with performance artist Reverend Jen he created the series Electra Elf. His papers at New York University's Fales Library preserve films, scripts, notebooks, drawings, correspondence and zine material. Taken together, they document a practice in which moving images, provocative writing and handmade publicity formed parts of the same independent cultural activity.
