Biography
Person.
Rachel Merrill is an illustrator, portrait artist and comics creator based in New York. She studied illustration at Ringling College of Art and Design, and her clients have included the Netflix Documentary Fund, Martina McBride and OR Books. Her comics have also appeared in The New Yorker’s online edition.
Merrill worked with writer Henry Barajas and colourist Lee Loughridge on Death to Pachuco, a historical noir comic set around the Sleepy Lagoon murder trial and the Zoot Suit Riots in wartime Los Angeles. The project brings her figure drawing and sequential storytelling into a narrative concerned with Mexican American history, racism and the conventions of crime fiction.
