Biography
Person.
Jamie Reid (1947–2023) was a British artist and activist whose graphics helped define the visual identity of punk. He studied at Croydon College, where he met Malcolm McLaren, and later created artwork for the Sex Pistols, including “Anarchy in the UK”, “God Save the Queen” and Never Mind the Bollocks.
His cut-up lettering and altered national symbols turned familiar public imagery into confrontational political statements. Beyond record sleeves, Reid used his work to oppose racism and nuclear weapons and to support campaigns for justice. His art is held in collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum, Tate and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
