Biography
Person.
Peter Saville is a British graphic designer and art director whose work helped define the visual identity of Factory Records. Born in Manchester in 1955, he studied at Manchester Polytechnic and designed the poster for Tony Wilson’s Factory club night in 1978 before becoming a co-founder of the record label.
His record sleeves for Joy Division and New Order brought modernist typography and unexpected found images into popular music. Later work extended to Suede, Pulp and fashion clients including Yohji Yamamoto and Stella McCartney.
