Biography
Person.
Shaggy is the stage name of Orville Richard Burrell, a Jamaican singer and deejay who developed his early career on New York’s dancehall circuit. His growling vocal delivery helped carry Oh Carolina to international success in 1993, followed by the album Boombastic in 1995. The title track’s use in a Levi’s campaign connected the record with fashion advertising as well as radio and clubs.
Hot Shot followed in 2000, with the hits It Wasn’t Me and Angel extending his reach into mainstream pop. His later collaborations include 44/876 with Sting, an album released in 2018.
